Piroxicam inhibits the production of prostaglandins, decreasing inflammatory reactions, which decreases pain. It is used in dogs to treat pain and inflammation with degenerative joint disease and as an adjunctive treatment of various tumors and carcinomas. In cats, it is mainly used for its anti-tumor effects, but with great caution.
When should Piroxicam not be used?
Piroxicam should be avoided in pets with allergies to aspirin or other NSAIDs, history of GI ulcer disease, bleeding disorders, or severely compromised cardiac function.What are the side effects associated with Piroxicam?
