Gabapentin is a prescription medication in the anticonvulsant class that may be used under veterinary supervision to help manage certain neurological and pain-related conditions in animals. In cats and dogs, it is commonly prescribed to support the management of chronic pain, particularly of neuropathic origin.
Gabapentin may also be used as adjunctive support for pets with refractory idiopathic epilepsy. In some cases, veterinarians may consider its use in horses, such as foals with seizures related to hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. Use and dosage should always be determined by a veterinarian based on the individual needs of the animal.
