Description

Chorulon® (chorionic gonadotropin) is a prescription animal drug containing a freeze-dried preparation of chorionic gonadotropin, also known as human chorionic gonadotropin or hCG. It is administered by intramuscular injection after reconstitution with the accompanying sterile diluent.

Chorulon is indicated in cows for the treatment of nymphomania, or frequent or constant heat, due to cystic ovaries. It is also indicated as an aid in improving spawning function in male and female brood finfish.

How It Works

Chorionic gonadotropin has luteinizing hormone-like activity with little or no follicle-stimulating or estrogenic activity.

This hormone-like activity provides the pharmacologic action responsible for the labeled reproductive uses of Chorulon in cows and brood finfish.

Indications

Chorulon® is indicated for:

Cows: Treatment of nymphomania (frequent or constant heat) due to cystic ovaries.

Brood Finfish: As an aid in improving spawning function in male and female brood finfish.

Use only as prescribed by a licensed veterinarian.

Ingredients

Directions

For intramuscular administration after reconstitution.

To reconstitute, transfer the contents of the accompanying sterile diluent into the vial containing the freeze-dried powder.

Use the reconstituted solution immediately. Do not store unused reconstituted solution for future use.

Cows:

Administer the contents of one reconstituted vial as a single deep intramuscular injection.

Brood Finfish:

Administer intramuscularly according to the species, body weight, sex, and veterinarian-directed dosing schedule.

The appropriate dose and number of injections for brood finfish vary. Follow the product labeling and veterinarian directions for the individual species and animal.

Use only as prescribed and directed by a licensed veterinarian.

Possible Side Effects

Anaphylactic Reaction / Hypersensitivity Reaction

Chorionic gonadotropin is a protein, and an anaphylactic reaction may occur. Seek immediate veterinary attention if a serious or unexpected reaction develops.

Precautions

Chorulon® should be administered only under the direction of a licensed veterinarian.

No withdrawal period is required for cows or brood finfish treated according to label directions.

For brood finfish intended for human consumption, the total dose administered from all injections combined should not exceed the maximum amount specified on the product labeling.

Use appropriate aseptic technique during reconstitution and administration.

Once reconstituted, Chorulon should be used immediately. Do not save unused reconstituted solution for later administration.

Storage

Store at or below room temperature, 77°F (25°C).

Keep out of reach of children.

Once reconstituted, use Chorulon® immediately. Do not store the reconstituted solution for future use.

Disposal

Dispose of unused reconstituted Chorulon® properly after use. Do not store unused reconstituted solution for future administration.

Dispose of unused or expired product, vials, needles, syringes, and other administration materials according to applicable local requirements for veterinary medications and sharps. Keep discarded medication and administration materials securely inaccessible to children and animals.
