Directions

Acepromazine Injectable may be administered:

• Intravenously (IV)
• Intramuscularly (IM)
• Subcutaneously (SQ)

Intravenous administration should be performed slowly, and sufficient time should be allowed for the drug to reach full effect before additional doses are considered.

Dosage is individualized based on:

Cautions

• Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.
• For animal use only.
• Not for human use.
• Keep out of reach of children.
• Use cautiously in debilitated, geriatric, dehydrated, anemic, or shock patients.
• Use with caution in animals with cardiovascular disease or liver disease.
• Use cautiously in Boxers, giant breeds, Greyhounds, and dogs with known MDR1 gene mutations, as they may have increased sensitivity.
• Avoid use in animals with known hypersensitivity to acepromazine or other phenothiazines.

Possible Side Effects

Potential side effects may include:

• Sedation
• Low blood pressure (hypotension)
• Slowed heart rate
• Decreased body temperature
• Prolapse of the third eyelid
• Temporary incoordination
• Rare paradoxical excitement
• Prolonged sedation in some breeds or individuals

Contact your veterinarian immediately if severe weakness, collapse, breathing difficulties, or other concerning reactions occur.

Precautions

• Monitor animals until they have fully recovered from sedation.
• Animals should be protected from extreme temperatures while sedated.
• Concurrent use with other sedatives, anesthetics, or opioids may enhance sedative effects.
• Dosage adjustments may be necessary for older or debilitated animals.
• Follow all veterinary instructions carefully.

Storage

• Store at 68°F to 77°F (20°C to 25°C).
• Excursions between 59°F and 86°F (15°C to 30°C) are permitted.
• Protect from excessive heat and freezing.
• Use within 6 months after the vial is first punctured.
• Keep the vial tightly closed when not in use.
