How to Order Prescriptions

Description

Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used to reduce the inflammation and pain of joint diseases and muscle injuries in dogs and cats. It is also used in reducing fever. In cats it may be used to reduce pain after surgery.

Benefits

    • Pain/inflammation relief
    • Reduce fever
    • Reduce swelling and stiffness of joints

How Does it Work?

Meloxicam is in a class of medications called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It works by stopping the body's production of a substance that causes pain, fever, and inflammation.

Dosage and Administration

Initial treatment is a single dose of 0.2 mg meloxicam/kg body weight on the first day, which can be given orally or alternatively using Metacam 5 mg/mL solution for injection. Treatment is to be continued once daily by oral administration (at 24-hour intervals) at a maintenance dose of 0.1 mg meloxicam/kg body weight.

The maximum recommended daily oral dose of MELOXICAM is 15 mg.

How Meloxicam Tablet work?

Meloxicam blocks the enzymes that make prostaglandins (cyclooxygenase 1 and 2) and reduces the levels of prostaglandins. As a result, inflammation and its accompanying symptoms are reduced.

Cautions/Side Effects

Meloxocam should not be given with other NSAIDs. Do not use in dogs less than 6 weeks old, or during pregnancy. Do not use in animals with bleeding disorders. Consult with your veterinarian before administering meloxocam. Side Effects may include vomiting, decrease appetite, skin irritation, stomach ulcers, change in behavior. Contact your vet immediately if your pet has side effects or conditions worsen.
