How to Order Prescriptions

Description

Phenylpropanolamine (generic for Proin®) is a prescription medication used in dogs for the control of urinary incontinence due to urethral sphincter hypotonus. It contains phenylpropanolamine hydrochloride (PPA), an
alpha-adrenergic agonist that helps improve urethral muscle tone.

By supporting the function of the urethral sphincter, phenylpropanolamine helps reduce involuntary urine leakage (“puddle” accidents) and improves urinary control. It is commonly prescribed by veterinarians as part of a long-term management plan.

Uses and Benefits

  • Helps tighten the urethral sphincter to improve urinary control
  • Effective for managing urinary incontinence in dogs
  • Supports reduction of involuntary urine leakage (“puddle control”)
  • Oral tablet form for easy administration
  • Can be used as part of a long-term treatment plan under veterinary supervision

How It Works

Phenylpropanolamine is an adrenergic (alpha-agonist) agent that stimulates receptors in the urethral sphincter muscle. This action increases sphincter tone, helping the bladder retain urine more effectively and reducing leakage.

Indications

Phenylpropanolamine is indicated for the control of urinary incontinence due to urethral sphincter hypotonus in dogs.
