Clindamycin hydrochloride is indicated for use in dogs to treat osteomyelitis and indicated for use in both dogs and cats to treat dental and skin infections caused by numerous susceptible strains of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria involved in specific conditions as listed on FDA-approved label. 

Effective oral antibiotic treatment for dental infections in dogs and cats caused by many common bacterial species:
  • In dogs, indicated to treat dental infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus, Bacteroides fragilis, Prevotella melaninogenicus, Fusobacterium necrophorum, and Clostridium perfringens.
  • In cats, indicated to treat dental infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus, S. intermedius, Streptococcus spp, C. perfringens, and B. fragilis.
Also treats wounds and abscesses caused by a variety of bacterial skin infections:
  • In dogs, indicated to treat skin infections (wounds and abscesses) due to coagulase positive staphylococci (Staphylococcus aureus or Staphylococcus intermedius). It is also indicated to treat deep wounds and abscesses in dogs due to Bacteroides fragilis, Prevotella melaninogenicus, Fusobacterium necrophorum and Clostridium perfringens.
  • In cats, indicated to treat skin infections (wounds and abscesses) due to Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus intermedius, Streptococcus spp.. It is also indicated to treat deep wounds and abscesses in cats due to Clostridium perfringens and Bacteroides fragilis.
Directions: Liquid formulation for dogs and cats. Available in 20 mL bottles with measured dropper.
  • In dogs, administer every 12 hours for up to 28 days as needed. For acute infections, discontinue use after 3 to 4 days if no response is seen.
  • In cats, administer every 24 hours for up to 14 days depending on need. For acute infections, discontinue use after 3 to 4 days if no response is seen.
In clinical trials, vomiting and diarrhea were occasionally observed. Do not use in animals with a history of hypersensitivity to clindamycin or lincomycin. Use with caution in patients with very severe renal disease and/or very severe hepatic disease. 

Contraindicated in animals with a history of hypersensitivity to clindamycin or lincomycin. Do not use in rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, horses, chinchillas or ruminating animals. Keep out of reach of children. Not for human use. Use with caution in patients with very severe kidney or liver disease and in animals receiving neuromuscular blocking agents such as succinylcholine. Safety in pregnant females or breeding males has not been established. Treatment of acute infections should not be continued for more than three or four days if no response to therapy is seen. Monitor bloodwork in animals on either high dose or prolonged therapy. Side effects occasionally observed include vomiting and diarrhea.
