Encephalomyelitis - West Nile Virus Vaccine, Eastern & Western, Killed Virus, Live Canarypox Vector, Tetanus Toxoid
INDICATIONS: This product is recommended for the vaccination of adult healthy horses as an aid in the prevention of disease, viremia, and encephalitis caused by West Nile Virus and encephalitis caused by Eastern Equine Encephalomyelitis Virus (EEEV) and Western Equine Encephalomyelitis Virus (WEEV), and tetanus caused by Clostridium tetani toxin.
DOSAGE: Reconstitute the lyophilized vaccine with accompanying liquid diluent and aseptically inject a 2 ml dose by intramuscular route. For primary vaccination, revaccinate with a second 2 ml dose of this product 4 to 6 weeks later. Annual revaccination with a single dose is recommended.
DESCRIPTION:
Contents: RECOMBITEK® Encephalomyelitis - West Nile Virus Vaccine, Eastern & Western, Killed Virus, Live Canarypox Vector, Tetanus Toxoid contains a lyophilized recombinant canarypox vectored West Nile Virus (WNV) vaccine plus a liquid diluent containing inactivated Eastern Equine Encephalomyelitis virus (EEV) and Western Equine Encephalomyelitis virus (WEEV), and Clostridium tetani toxoid. A canarypox vector has been modified using recombinant technology to express the desired antigens capable of stimulating a protective immune response to West Nile Virus. After inoculation, the vector does not multiply in the horse, but does express the protective proteins. As a consequence, base components induce an immune status against West Nile Virus.
EFFICACY DATA: Immunogenicity of the WNV fraction has been demonstrated by vaccination and challenge tests in 6 month old healthy horses.
SAFETY DATA: Field Safety testing has demonstrated the RECOMBITEK® rWNV-EWT is safe for use in horses 4 months or older.
PRECAUTIONS: Store at 2-7°C (35-45°F). For the preparation and administration of the vaccine, use sterile and antiseptic-free and/or disinfectant-free material. Burn container and all unused contents. Contains penicillin, streptomycin, gentamicin and thimerosal as preservatives. Do not vaccinate within 21 days prior to slaughter. In some instances, transient local swelling may occur at the injection site. As with any vaccine, a hypersensitivity reaction may occur, which may require appropriate symptomatic treatment.
