What is the probiotic in FortiFlora? The probiotic in FortiFlora is Enterococcus faecium strain SF68.
How does it work? FortiFlora helps to re-establish a normal microflora balance in the gastrointesinal tract. The beneficial bacteria help nourish the intestinal cells and protect against the colonization by pathogenic bacteria which can cause diarrhea.
What types/causes of diarrhea are most responsive to probiotic supplementation? FortiFlora is considered to be most beneficial for diarrhea caused by microflora imbalance. These incude stress, antibiotics, diet change, dietary indiscretion and acute enteritis. Diarrhea resulting from other causes can also benefit. The degree to which the diarrhea is resolved willl depend on the primary cause and its resolution.
Is it safe to use FortiFlora in puppies, kittens, or pregnant animals? Yes, the probiotic in FortiFlora can be safely given to young or pregnant animals and has been shown to help establish a healthy microflora balance in puppies and kittens.
How often do I use a packet? FortiFlora should be given with food once a day, every 24 hours.
Why do small dogs and large dogs both only get one packet a day...shouldn't large dogs get more than small dogs? There is a minimum of 1 x 10(8) CFU in every 1-gram packet of FortiFlora. This is a sufficient level of Enterococcus faecium to exert in any sized dog or cat.
How do I store it? Does it need to be refrigerated? FortiFlora can be stored at room temperature and does not need to be refrigerated.
How long should FortiFlora be given? FortiFlora should be given for 30 days. Some conditions may require longer management.
